PRESTOSPORTS/MBWA WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michele Gage Leads Columbia University to Historic Weekend

WHITE PLAINS, NY (11 February 2008) - Earning this week's PrestoSports/Met Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week award is Columbia University's Michele Gage (San Rafael, Calif./Marin Catholic). Gage led the Lions (7-13 overall, 4-2 Ivy League) to a winning weekend, as CU won at Penn 70-61 and at Princeton 78-64, the first Ivy League road sweep in program history.
The senior had a huge weekend with back-to-back 20+ point games. The 5-11 guard averaged 22.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in Columbia's two wins, punctuating her weekend with a 24-point, 13-rebound effort at Princeton on Saturday. Eight of Gage's 12 first-half points came during a decisive 18-0 run during a six minute span in the first half. Gage finished the game having made 9-of-16 from the floor, 3-of-5 from three-point range, and had three steals in addition to her seventh career double-double. Her 24 points and 13 rebounds were season highs. A night earlier at Penn, Gage scored 14 of her 20 points in the first half and helped Columbia defeat the Quakers. Gage made 8-of-15 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers. She added six rebounds, two steals, an assist and a blocked shot in a team-high 36 minutes, all while committing zero turnovers.
