WHITTIER COLLEGE PARTNERS WITH PRESTOSPORTS ON WEB SOLUTION

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Whittier College, a nationally-recognized liberal arts college located in Southern California and home of the "Poets," has partnered with PrestoSports for its web solution. The Poets, a member of NCAA Division III and the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), will launch the new site prior to the start of the academic year.

"Our partnership with PrestoSports on this project is vital as we continue to work toward enhancing our program's overall image," Whittier College Director of Athletics Robert Coleman said. "We recently unveiled our new mascot graphic, so reconstructing the athletics website represents another critical step in our effort to reach out to and stay connected with our alumni, team supporters, and members of our community."

Located 18 miles southeast of Los Angeles, Whittier College fields teams in 21 intercollegiate sports. The women's teams compete in basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and water polo. The men's teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and water polo.

"We're excited that our relationship with the SCIAC continues to grow with the addition of Whittier College to our network," PrestoSports Vice President Chris Gonzales said. "As this prestigious college bolsters its presence on the web, we're proud to be a part of it."

Nineteen of Whittier's 21 varsity sports compete in the SCIAC (another member of the PrestoSports network), while the two lacrosse programs are NCAA Division III independents. Several graduates of the Whittier athletic program have gone on to professional careers as coaches or athletes for the National Football League, Major League Baseball, and Major League Lacrosse, among others.

Whittier College boasts top-notch athletics facilities. The Donald E. Graham Athletics Center includes the 2,000 seat Wardman Pavilion and Dave Jacobs Court, the state-of-the-art George Allen Fitness Center, Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts, the Lillian Slade Aquatics Center, a dance studio, and training facilities. Competitive athletic fields include Memorial Baseball Field, Graham Soccer/Lacrosse Field, and the Charles and Marie Palmer Softball Stadium. The campus' largest competitive space is Memorial Stadium, which offers spectator capacity at 7,000 and is comprised of Newman Football Field, Aubrey Bonham Track, and the Track Pavillion.

During the 2006-07 academic year, Whittier College enrolled 1,427 undergraduate and graduate students, hailing from 45 U.S. states and territories and 19 countries. Forty-five percent were men, and 55 percent were women; 41 percent were American minorities, and five percent international students. Close to 27 percent of Whittier's student body is Hispanic-one of the highest percentages among the 73 independent colleges in California. Nearly 25 percent of all eligible students participate in the Poets sports programs, including notable Whittier College alumnus President Richard M. Nixon '34, who played for the Poet football team.

Founded by Quakers in 1887, Whittier College is an independent, four-year college offering a traditional liberal arts program integrated with both professional and pre-professional courses of study. With an emphasis on diversity, community, and curricular innovation, the College's primary mission is to endow students with the education, skills, and values appropriate for global leadership and service. Whittier College is a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Whittier Law School, an affiliate of Whittier College, is located on a separate campus in Orange County.
