NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL PARTNERS WITH PRESTOSPORTS, SITE REDESIGN UNDERWAY
ROCKVILLE, Md. - One of the nation's most unique institutions to offer athletics, Newport News Apprentice School has partnered with PrestoSports for a redesign of its athletics web site. The Apprentice School fields intercollegiate teams in football, men's basketball, women's basketball, wrestling, baseball and men's golf. The Builders are a proud member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association - another new PrestoSports client.
"Working with PrestoSports we feel will be the perfect thing to bring all of our websites (ACFC, USCAA and GoBuilders) to another level," said Apprentice School Director of Athletics Bill Casto. "The staff is very professional and we look forward to many years of dealings with them."
The Apprentice School provides high quality, comprehensive 4 and 5-year apprentice programs for students interested in shipbuilding careers. Since 1919, programs have produced over 9,000 graduates in support of the operational needs of Northrop Grumman Newport News. Since its beginning, Newport News Apprentice School has fielded intercollegiate athletic teams. Athletics have been crucial in the training of the "head, heart, and hand" of apprentices.
"We're pleased to have the opportunity to help the athletics department at the Apprentice School promote its mission," PrestoSports Vice President Chris Gonzales said. "The Builders strive to train champions on and off the field of play. We hope to help meet those goals with an innovative web site featuring all the latest tools."
The Apprentice School athletic department recently concluded one of its most successful seasons in recent memory as its teams combined for a 70-52 record winning over 57% of its contests. That marks the sixth time in the last seven years that the Builders have won over 50% of their contests. On and off the field, 53 Apprentice School athletes were recognized 115 times with awards ranging from conference player of the week honors, All-Conference, All-Region, All-American and Academic All-American awards. Leading the Builders athletic honors this year was the baseball team as they won the first men's national championship for the school on the diamond defeating Presentation College 4-3 on May 10 in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association tournament final.
